Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven pounced twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of chances, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising the match official to review the score on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's side up to third in the division, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay in 14th position and sit half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in duties at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a mere two shots on target, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the pair handled excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking finishing touch

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have faded somewhat and fans flocked to the gates after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of recognised strikers - had netted just a single goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he opted to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having room and time to readjust for a simpler shot that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Tottenham box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men head to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.

Spurs: Spurs travel to St James' Park on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
